The bad news is on July 8, 2005 the mill burned to the ground taking 3 days and 250 local jobs. The good news is nobody was injured. Here is a full collection of photos taken after the 3 days when streets were finally semi-opened for foot traffic. This slide show of the devastation is well lubricated with a Bela Fleck and the Flecktones arrangement recorded in Stereo-Surround-Sound a year earlier at Roseburg's Stewart Park during a free-to-the-public Half Shell concert.

In 2006 Blake Nelson published a young adult novel entitled Paranoid Park, that has been adapted into a film by director Gus Van Sant, which was released in 2007. Blake's story deals with a 16 year old skateboarder who accidentally kills a security guard at a skate park. Both the novel and the film take place in Portland, Oregon, although Blake/Van Sant's Paranoid Park is a skate park located on Portland's East Side. The story revolves around a teenage skateboarder who accidentally kills a security guard. It premiered at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival as one of the 22 films in competition, and won the extra-special 60th anniversary prize.

We took our twin boys on the SPS 700 train that ran for the Holiday Express Dec 5th 2009. It runs near Oaks Park in Portland, Oregon. We had such a blast that we plan on making this trip every year as our Family Holiday Tradition. I used a free program called Pinnacle videospin 2.0 found here: www.videospin.com to join together various pictures and video that we took when we went on this trip, Then added music that I thought would best fit this video. I was in a hurry to get this up and did not have time to edit / lighten scenes etc. Hopefully next year will be better.
