How would I go about opening a record store in Portland, Oregon?

How can I find a location/building in Portland, Oregon to open a record store in? And how can I find out about the zoning regulations?

You should register your business first with the Secretary of State. They also offer a free booklet that contains important information about doing business regulations. In addition, you can get advice at SBA.

Consider asking Terry of Music Mellinnium about helping to provide another location for his already successful biz. His current plan (I hear) is to close his popular NW 23rd location, and keep the east side site. Costs in the NW neighborhood are high, so maybe you can suggest an alternate site and propose a deal with him?

I’d suggest making it in an urban renewal area, and by a facility, as appreciation can augment your bottom line…and if large enough, leases can help pay the mortgage.

There is also a possibility to partner with a great Eugene Gamers Lounge and Game Rental biz that is considering expansion to pdx. Contact me if that is of interest to you, and I’ll put you in touch with the fun, hip owners. The Portland sites could also offer music, and live events.
