Tags: politics, oregon newsGovernor Ted Kulongoski pays tribute to the Oregon National Guard in above video LA GRANDE, Ore - Just weeks after President Obama declared an end to combat missions in Iraq, the 3rd Battalion, 116th Cavalry headquartered in La Grande mobilized Tuesday for mission named "Operation New Dawn," guarding convoys and US bases, supporting the Iraqi army and police to Iraq with more than 500 Oregon Army National Guard soldiers. Governor Ted Kulongoski, a former Marine, shook the hands of every soldier standing in formation. Kulongoski is the longest serving governor during wartime. He has sent more than 12000 soldiers and airmen into battle zones, more than any other Governor in the Nation. The units included men and women from Ontario, Baker City, La Grande, Pendleton, The Dalles, Hermiston, Hood River and Woodburn.
